Emergency Management

The West Vincent Township Emergency Management Coordinator, at the direction of the Board of Supervisors, is responsible for the development, maintenance and implementation of the West Vincent Township Emergency Operations Plan.

        In the event that disaster has occurred or is imminent, the township may declare a State of Local Disaster Emergency. The purpose of this declaration is to activate the West Vincent Township Emergency Operations Plan, all response and recovery aspects of the plan, and all aid and assistance there under. This declaration also enacts powers of the township to enter into contracts and incur obligations necessary for management, response and recovery operations associated with the disaster.

        In the event a disaster has occurred or is imminent, the Emergency Management Coordinator will activate the Emergency Operations Center and will staff the center according to the needs of the Township. The Emergency Management Coordinator will coordinate all response and recovery operations within the township and with county, state and federal agencies providing assistance.

        Philadelphia Electric Company has installed and maintains warning sirens in the area ten miles in diameter around the Limerick Nuclear Power Station. West Vincent Township falls into that area; residents are therefore treated to a sounding of the alarms on the first Monday of each month at approximately 2:00 p.m. In the event of an actual emergency of any sort (Limerick, pipeline rupture, oil spill on a highway - any event that warrants public attention), sirens will be activated to warn us that we should tune to local radio stations WCAU-AM 1210, WCOJ-AM 1420,or WYIS-AM 690 to receive details and instructions.
