Nature Club Event - Opalanie Park Clean Up
Care for and learn about nature!

Time & Location

Chester Springs, 1422 St Matthews Rd, Chester Springs, PA 19425, USA
About the Event
We will be caring for the reforestation planting there, checking on the young trees and shrubs and uprighting tree tubes and replacing broken tree tube stakes.  We will also begin the big job of removing invasive plants from the woodland. We plan to gently remove vines on trees along the trail. You don’t need to be strong – just gentle and patient!
Trees are integral to stormwater management, temperature moderation, removing pollution from air and water, promoting and protecting biodiversity, producing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide. Â
Adult and young tree stressors include invasive insects, invasive vines, and severe storms; young trees are also a food source for deer. Invasive vines stress and strangle our trees. If we can help remove the weight of the vines, the trees stand a better chance of withstanding severe storms.Â
Note: we are not targeting poison ivy or removing it; but, there is a possbililty that it is out there. Â If you are highly allergic to poison ivy, this is not a good activity for you. Â There may be ticks waking up, so tucking your shirt into your pants and your pants into your socks can help keep ticks off your skin. Â We will have tick spray available.
Everyone should wear a hat, gloves, long sleeves, and long pants. Â Please bring gloves, pruners, loppers, or outdoor scissors if you have them. Â
This event is organized by the West Vincent Environmental Advisory Council.Â
