About the Event
Meet on Pinehurst Drive at the paved Weatherstone Trail that runs between Pinehurst and Fellowship Roads. This trail runs alongside a wooded wetland which protects one of the headwaters of Birch Run.
There are many invasive vines that are strangling young trees along the trail. We plan to gently remove them. You don’t need to be strong – just gentle and patient!
Trees are integral to stormwater management, temperature moderation, removing pollution from air and water, promoting and protecting biodiversity, producing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide.
Adult and young tree stressors include invasive insects, invasive vines, and severe storms; young trees are also a food source for deer. Invasive vines stress and strangle our trees. If we can help remove the weight of the vines, the trees stand a better chance of withstanding severe storms.
Note: we are not targeting poison ivy or removing it; but, there is a possbililty that it is out there. If you are highly allergic to poison ivy, this is not a good activity for you.
Everyone should wear a hat, gloves, long sleeves, and long pants. Please bring gloves, pruners, loppers, or outdoor scissors if you have them.
This event is organized by the West Vincent Environmental Advisory Council.
