Woodcock (Timberdoodle) Evening Walk!
The American woodcock (Scolopax minor), a/k/a, timberdoodle, is a ground-dwelling bird that lives in young forest and shrublands. Woodcock breed across eastern North America. These ground-dwelling birds are here for a short time in Opalanie to do their mating dance!

The American woodcock (Scolopax minor), also known as the timberdoodle, is a ground-dwelling bird that lives in young forest and shrublands. Woodcock breed across eastern North America and spend the winter in lowlands from the Mid-Atlantic south to the Gulf Coast states.
Please join our EAC this Friday, March 10, 2023 at 5:00 pm at Opalanie Park.Â
We will leave the parking lot at 5:15 p.m. Â We will walk down to near dump area and hope to spy the American Woodcock doing their dusk mating ritual! Â
Register here. We are asking all participants to check in and out at the parking lot with EAC volunteer, Rachel McKay on date of event! Â
Rain date and second walk will be Friday March 17, 2023, same time, same place.  Please dress appropriately and bring flashlights. Although the walk may not extend further than 7:00 p.m., all guests would need to exit the park no later than 8:00 p.m.
Rain will cancel the walk. You will be notified via email from R. McKay and a notice will be placed on the WVT website and Facebook page in the event of cancellation.
